Project 365 - The Random Approach -End of June

Jake With His Rain Maker
(Cub Scout Camp Project)
Jake got to spend 5 days at Scout Camp this month!

Peace on Wallowa Lake
A short visit. But it was, peaceful.

***************
So.. Summer has finally arrived! Our last storms (in the forecast) left us on Friday. The Full Moon was last night - and I got to see it again when I woke. I love seeing the summer moon in the morning. It sits right over the Blues (our mountains).

This week I went on a 'quick' retreat with my work mates to Wallowa Lake - we rented a gorgeous cabin (2.5 hours from home - need to take the family)! But let me tell you. We were in a meeting from the moment we arrived to the moment we left - and every spare moment (during meals) in between - 2 days worth. The setting and the ability to 'get away' from outside distractions was the best. So needed. But, I was tired when I left, and I was tired when I got home. Our power was out when I got home - Thunderstorms - for a couple hours. So. I dozed before dinner. Long days do that to me. Wednesday night I was up until 11pm (after waking at 4am!). So not my daily schedule! And then Dick and the kids have been staying up until 10 or 10:30 each night as well.

Yes. It is Summer. We really do try to get in every minute we can!

Yesterday when Jake and I got home from the La Grande market, both kennel dogs had escaped and had chased one of Sami's bummer lambs (and chewed on her) quite extensively. Not good.

I'll spare you the details. It's so heartbreaking when things like this happen. When 'natural' things occur against our will. It's hard to accept. Jake cried when he found her. I picked her up and ran with her - away from the place I found her - and to a shady spot to rest. And I cried to God. For help. For understanding. I don't blame God for any of life's trials. Sometimes life is so hard.

Sami and Dick did not get back from their Portland market until 8pm - so we had to break the news about Tulip, the lamb that was still alive when we woke, but, hardly. Another heart broke.

Today is Sunday. And it was a beautiful day. I started out raking grass for 2 hours, and then had hoped to mow the lawn - try as I might that darn mower would not start! HA! So.. there you have it.

Here's hoping next week goes a little smoother.

Have a great evening. And check out that moon!

Moxie Fab - I Want to Ride My Bicycle Challenge #2

Sami's Rad Ride
(click on image to see journaling, etc.)

So... I had a moment of inspiration and was playing around with some more bicycle goodies for the Moxie Fab I Want to Ride my Bicycle Challenge, along with the packaging from some Prima flowers, and the bicycle images on the back of a Studio Calico promo piece. There I was, moving things around, and what was to be a card was morphing into a cool title and then I remembered the photos from Cycle Oregon - when Sami's 5th grade class got to ride in the race for a couple miles! Way cool!!!! And, that my friends, is how this layout came to being!

The challenge requires that you use a bicycle in an innovative way. I'm going for the 'bikes as part of a title' technique (It's new! Flashy! Bold! Moxie Fab? Um.. Yeah.). What you don't see, is my attempt at making watermarks on the cardstock with Versamark and the back of the bike tires from the cool Jolee's sticker. I thought it would be cool to have bike tires as my background. But, alas, that did.not.work. But I tried:)

So sorry for the brightness - I took the photo outside, in direct sun, but heck, we finally have sun!

Supplies:
Red Bicycle Dimensional Sticker- Jolee's by You
Adhesive Chipboard Alphas - K&Company (I love these!!!!)
Recycled bicycle promo piece, Fab Rips, scallop border sticker and journal stickers- Studio Calico
Card Stock - Stampin' Up
Sharpie Marker

Thanks for looking!!!

Sweet Ride! Moxie Fab 'Iwant To Ride My Bicycle' Challenge

Sweet Ride!
Digi Supplies:
Patterned Papers: Jesse Edwards Citrus

Vintage Bike ClipArt: Found at Graphics Fairy
Sentiment: Created in MS Word: Berlin Sans Font
Traditional Supplies:
CS: Archivers
Little Clips: Stampin' Up
Yellow Twine: My Personal Stash

The current 'I Want to Ride My Bicycle' challenge over at the Moxie Fab World is to 'Create a project (card, gift bag, tag, layout, home decor item, mini-book cover, etc.) that incorporates a bicycle in an innovative way.' The Challenge ends June 28th -so lots of time to still play!

BTW: There were NO Bicycle stamps at Michael's when I was in the big city this last Thursday. But somehow, I came home with a ton of stuff I wasn't looking for! Oy... I know if I went to Archiver's I could have scored on the super cute one by Hero Arts! CURSES for not driving an additional 30 minutes in nasty construction traffic with my husband's truck! (long story... I have truck and trailer issues - ranch business).

So, my 'innovative way' is the citrus wheels. I gave this one some thought. Kinda lame, I know but there I was, thinkin' of summer... and summer sweetness, which lead to a sweet ride. And gosh, summer colors and tasty things! So... there you have it. Citrus goodies. I added a few spokes with a black sharpie.

And, yes this is a hybrid card. I'm dipping my toe into digital stuff, and trying to make things without getting frustrated!

Thanks for looking!

Hidden Journal Card
(click on to enlarge and read journaling - and yes, I do see a couple of errors!)
I had too much to write so I created this baby and tucked it behind
the large circle on the layout.
I created the journaling top layer in PSE6 and mounted it on patterned paper.
Note: PSE6 does NOT have a spell checker or grammar check!
Oh my... the errors of my ways.

(I guess I like my journal card so much I posted it 2x!)
Dolt!
I'm leaving it here. I love the surrounding elements and photo!

I'm still keeping up with one of my New Year Resolutions! Mainly, the Project 12 challenge.
(Click on the Project 12 icon over on the right side of my blog to learn more about the project).

This is a 'hybrid' layout. Meaning, part digi (computerized elements and scrapbooking) and part regular scrabbooking (playing with papers, adhesive, ribbions, etc.)..

I LOVED doing this page! Mainly, the photos take me back to the trip I went on with Sami's 6th grade class to Newport, Oregon.

I have a bazillion photos from the trip.. which I need to post - not all, just the highlights. They are so darn hilarious!

Thanks for visiting:)

Yeah! Summer is Here!

Finally!

We have sunshine.. and warmth! Today's high is to be 74 degrees.

The kids setup the tent in the backyard last night, and slept out there. With 2 cats. Jake came in with puffy eyes (allergies)... That tent that is 52 years old, right now. Seriously.

And, Jake has Cub Scout Camp this week! Yeah for my little guy! Fun stuff! (They are both worried that all they do is work.work.work. Ranch kids, what can we say???)

Other than that.. my lawn mower and weed eater are still not working, we are marking lambs later today, and I have TWO chicken Runs this week...

Crazy times...

Will post goodies later!
Smooches...
