Getting Ready for Halloween! 2009

Treats for The Trick or Treaters!
I made these while at last week's retreat.
Super easy!
Since we are at the end of a long driveway,
and in a very rural area, our visitors are far and few between.
So they get special goodies

Materials Used:
Top Note Die -SU - used with the Big Shot
Punched shapes: all SU punches
(scallop and 2 circles)
Patterned Papers - Dream Street
Black card Stock: SU
Bags: SU

I also made these goodie bags!
The Black bag is from a Cricut Die - THANKS Paula!
(I spent most of the retreat getting to know my Cricut!)
Supplies:
Jenny Bowlin Halloween Bingo Cards
Dream Street Patterned Papers
Black Tulle

*** Most of the Halloween supplies came from an awesome kit ***
Here is a Link

Standing in front of our 'new' Piano!

Sigh...

So the other night, Wednesday to be precise, after I got home from work, and after dinner, about 7:30 pm, my darling children informed me that 'we' had to get their costumes made/together/finished for school the next day.

Nothin' like a fast deadline. And yes, somewhere in the back of my itty bitty brain I knew the date was coming, however, I thought they were big enough to do it all on their own! HA!

Bedtime is 8pm over here at Casa de Sexton, and, in order to get said Children in bed by 8:00pm the 'we' turned into a mostly 'me'. I managed to get the Bell Bottoms done for Sami and a mask done for Jake. Next morning? 'Mom, I need a Peace Sign!'.

Double double sigh.

Sorry, Jake did not dress up for a photo shoot before running off to school! He packed his costume. Which, basically, is a cape and mask. He's good to go as long as he has a cape.

Tonight, Friday night, we will do the downtown Trick or Treat, and tomorrow evening will the annual Drive through the Hood to visit neighbors far and far between!!!

(After the Boise Market... crazy...)

Have a great Halloween!!!

Caardvarks Challenge 3-D - Dad Clock

My 3-D Dad Clock!
For the Caardvark's Challenge
And Father's Day
And, a Class!
(Yep. I am teaching a class!)

The Naked Pieces

Painted Parts
I painted everything first
Note To Self:If I do it again,
I will leave the DAD painted, w/o patterned paper
and just cover the back panel with paper.
I really liked the brown!

A Side View
See? 3-D!!
It has length, width, height
and depth, baby..

This afternoon I finally got a project done that has been on my 'For Dad's Day' list and which fit perfectly for the current Caardvarks 3D challenge!

Oh, I love it when that happens...

I made a clock!

The project took me a total of 3 hours, which is very generous considering I also:
  • Typed Instructions as I went (I am actually teaching others to make this on Saturday!)
  • Took photos of the process
  • Spent time finding 'daddy' photos in PSE6, and experimenting with different sizes, and of course messing a few up when I cut them!
  • Painting parts, and covering the papers with Mod Podge.
I'm thinking I will ink the paper edges as well. It's looking a little plain to me...

Now, I did make one of these previously, w/o photos, paint or mod podge. That one took one hour! So, there are options for the students.

Thanks for looking!

Supplies:
KaiserCraft Dad Clock Kit
Patterned papers and stickers from Karen Foster Design
Buttons, Ribbons, Basic Grey, other stash
PLAID Craft Paint
Mod Podge

Fat Book Pages - Driven & Retro

Fat Book Page: Driven - Front View

For the Fat Book Swap, the first page is to be of a Driven Woman.
I chose Oprah. I pulled the photo of Oprah off the internet,
and touched her up in Photoshop. I gave her some golden highlights - she is a goddess, after all!
I ran some patterned paper through my printer and created the 'Oprah is Driven' background.
Once again I used the vellum from World Win papers for my quote and the images. Dang this stuff is awesome!!!

Driven - Back

Stamps used: Hero Arts Italian Poetry.
I heat embossed with Gold.

Fat Book Page: Retro (Women in Ads from the 1950's - 1970's)

This image came from one of Roni's helpful links! (Roni is the hostess of the Fat Book Swap).
I touched up this gal's necklace with a gold spica pen and added and a big ol' pearl.
She is a Diva, don't you think?
For each of the pages I added a funky retro pin. They are all different (my fave is one that says 'trophy wife'!).

Scan of Front and Back of the Retro Page

The back has some Glitter Mist sprayed on glossy card stock.
I also painted the edges (front) with some pearly MM paint!

Stamps used: Front 'You Go Girl' (from Michaels)
Back: Flourish from Purple Onion Designs, and Coco Chanel quote from Bella.

***********

The above are my entries for this months Fat Book Swap. As mentioned last month, we create 2 designs a month, 10 of each design. July is our second month and we have a total of 5 months!

The pages are 4x4 little collages/ATCs. Hopefully the other gals will start posting theirs so I can see them! It's fun to see everyone's take on the themes... One gal shared her Driven. She chose 'Driving Miss Daisy'! I had to laugh - that was my first choice as well!

To learn more about the Fat Book Swap, visit Roni at Inkstains! Be sure to click on her header to go to current posts as well. Roni gives tons of cool tutorials and product reviews! Right now she is sharing 'Mica'.

Catch you all later!

'Home is Where the Heart Lives' - Creative Stuff

This is a little project I did during WSW '08 over at the 2peas Stampin' Message Board. The house is wooden. I painted it with some Making Memories paint, then added all sorts of 'fun' stuff! I haven't shared it with you yet, and there must have been a reason! This month's theme over at Sarah's Inkurable Stampers Blog is flourishes, and I am going to submit this for her challenge (flourish stamps used for chimney smoke & along the eaves of the house).

Note: Sarah also has super fun tutorials, product reviews and lots of fun art posted by amazing creators, such as herself! Be sure to go check it out.

RECIPE:
Stamps: Cornish Heritage Farms Primitive Beginnings (the salt box house, trees, and sentiment 'Home is Where the Heart Lives'; and Basic Grey Flourish Corners (the flourish coming out of the chimney, flourishes along the eaves, and little blossom at the base of the little house).
Patterned Papers: From K & Co's Ancestry Line (LOVE this paper!). The papers are on the chimney, under the smoke, the eves, under the saltbox house and the ground.
Rub-On: The sentiment 'We're Here for Each Other' also came from the K & Co. Ancestry Line - I modified it. There were more words...
Embellishment(s): Cute floral thing at top of house also from K & Co. Ancestry Line; Clear Fragment on chimney, that 'Home is Where the Heart Lives' stamped onto it is from Tim Holtz Idea-ology Line (adhered with SU Crystal Effects).
Inks: Midnight Blue Stazon, and Ranger/Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Wooden House: Say It With Letters - (6inchhappyhome)

I don't know about you, but I've noticed all sorts of fun 'house' projects popping up!
Love Them!

Thanks for Looking!

Projects from WSW - Time & Masterboard Challenges

My Entry for Dawn's WSW 'What Time is It?' Challenge

*** Note: This project is also being featured at another Time Challenge over at
Inkurable Stampers
The Theme for June is 'Time'. Sarah Schwerin is the hostess and she invited me to participate! Sarah also hosted a WSW challenge. Be sure to visit her site for other Time related projects.
Thank you Sarah! ***

This baby met 11 of the challenges posted at the 2peas 'WSW' event.
Click on the photo to see more detail.

I got my inspiration from Wendy V.'s (Studio 490) Maya Road Class!
Wendy posted a three-project course for the WSW event.
My 'recipe' and a listing of the other challenges met can be found here:
Time Tag Recipe

Playing with time related stamps on Chipboard

Two different stamps are used above. I 'play around' with ideas before actually making something. I was happy with the little t, and decided to create the word 'time'.
I used the 't' on the right on my Time tag

A creation using my Master Board
The master board is farther down in this post!

Another view of my entry for the Time Challenge
(click on the photo to see all the pieces)
See the little word 'travel'? I stamped it on the master board and cut it out. The 'travel' word is actually taken from one of my favorite SA journal related stamps.

My Masterboard
Sorry the photos are out of sequence!

One of the challenges at the WSW event was themed 'What Time is It?'. We had to use numbers, or clocks in our work and of course, had to use stamps! Another was the Master Board challenge, where you create your own 'base' master board with inks and stamps (create your own background) and use it in other creations.

The challenges overlapped for me and the above projects are what I created.

And, lucky me, I won the Time challenge! Thanks Dawn!!

Thank you everyone for looking!

Bo Bunny Travel Book - Part II

More Photos from The Travel Book
(see previous post for more info!)

Altered Bo Bunny Travel Board Book - Part 1

Note: Click on each photo for a large version!!!

Here is one of the projects I made on my Scrap Retreat!

While I was running errands the day before my big escape, the owner of the main store that I shop for my scrappy supplies (and copy, and fax, etc.) said she had a proposition for me... She showed me a selection of the Bo Bunny Board Books and said 'If I gave you all the supplies would you make one of these for the store for display?' I got to pick out all the papers and embellishments I wanted to use, plus I get to keep the project after it is displayed, and I 'got' an additional store credit to shop in the future. Now, keep in mind I live in a rural area. By no means am I a 'stand out' artist in the hood. I am just a frequent customer!

I took her up on it. One of my projects was to get our Seattle Trip photos done, so I picked out the 'Travel' Book.. It is packaged as bare naked brown chipboard, just the letters.

This took me about 12 hours to make.. I mod podged the papers to the chipboard, then sanded the edges. Most of the pp and embellies are from the K & Co's Ancestry Line (which I love - and I already have a huge stash for my Walsh Family Album!). Buttons are Basic Grey; ribbon from SU. I also used the SU scallop flower punch. Sorry about the camera flash...

I can only load 5 photos at a time, so this project will be in 2 parts.

Tasty Eye Candy!

Just a Peak! Only a Peak!!

My ABC tags arrived yesterday. Yippee! In February I was invited to participate in an ABC Tag Swap with 25 other artists across this 3rd rock from the sun... the tags arrived yesterday - well, 25. We are missing one letter and I'm thinking of ways to fill the gap... Some of these beauties traveled all the way from Norway, Germany, Australia, France and New Jersey! They stopped in Canada for assembly by our swap organizer, then made their way back out across the miles, this time in sets, to all of us.

Can I tell you how honored I am to be in such company? These gals are true Artists! Some teach classes, have written their own books and have stamps named after them! Several are on design teams. I am one of the 'newbies' and was so touched that Deborah invited me to join her group. The invitation alone was a hallmark occasion for me. Each tag is a work of art with so much detail!

If you look closely you can see my tag, it's the one in the middle with the black silhouette flowers.. I can't show you the whole enchilada until next week. Our leader, Deborah March, is working on the possibility of our tags being published. We find out next week! If this happens, it will be my first Art publication (other than my writing, that is).

Once we get the 'OK' I will share with you a tutorial on how I made my tag. It has a full-moon image and was for the letter 'M'. Oh! My set came with an 'extra' X. As her luck would have it, it was Deborah's! That gal deserves a crown, a medal and a cake for all the work she put into this. Thanks, Deborah!
