With my posts.
Catching Up, filling in the gaps, going for 'it'. (Thanks for the advice!)
So.
Can you identify the Unidentified Baked Object?
Here are a few hints:
- It made it's appearance Thursday Night at my son's Blue & Gold Banquet
- No, it was not made by a child. I made that creation - and, on purpose!
- I left work 3 hours early (to some irritated supervisory staff members dismay) to come home, Bake A Cake, and go back to town to attend a big event -for something very special, in my son's life. A mommy sacrifice. Believe me, someone actually said to me, very angrily 'You're leaving early to bake a cake??? There's more to that story, let's leave it for now.
- My son had a particular request - I tried to make his little boy dreams come true.
- Think, somewhere between Martha Stewart and Sharon Osborn - in terms of my ability when it comes to baking anything that requires 'working outside' the cake box! Building materials, and props, are not my forte in the kitchen.
- It was a HUGE hit with the under 9 age set! My son will be ten soon. He was a skeptic. ALL the little kids wanted to touch it and eat it. Several wanted to 'win that cake'!
Because of #5, my reputation was saved, intact. And we drove home AFTER the event very happily...
Yet, along our drive to said banquet, the following conversation occurred:
Me: Jake, we can leave it in the car if you really don't like it.
Jake: No, that's OK Mom, (I swear I can hear his eyeballs rolling), It's Fine.
Sami: I'll take it in! (Very enthusiastically, coming from the chief decorator's ball court)
Sami: 'Mom? Are you crying?'
Jake: (I can see him through my rear view mirror, popping up to see if I am indeed crying). He must be thinking 'uh oh'. He carried it in. I carried the chili.
Yes, Chili. Another Chili event. (school chili feed was Feb. 6th). I also got up at 4am to prep the chili and put all the ingredients in a crock pot so it would be ready for the event - because, well, I am now a super duper working mom!
And, because of #5, I was the Mom of the Night (well, for some)...
So go ahead, take a guess. What WAS I trying to make?
I'll post the 'look alike' along side this photo in the next post.

Maybe a Harry Potter hat?
Atlantis?
Andi, I really don't have a clue..... But I'd have proudly carried it in for you just the same:)
I think it's a rocket?
Mmmmm....not very good at guessing...but, I DO think it was a cool looking cake!!! I can't wait to see what it was :D Hope you are having a great Sunday! Sweet blessings!!!
Remember that old song, Big Rock Candy Mountain. That's what I kept thinking of looking at it. I fondly recall the blue and gold banquet. So glad you are still here with us blogging away.
Okay, this is probably TOTALLY off base, but the first thing that popped in my head was that big mountain thingy from Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind. Remember when Richard Dreyfus made it out of mashed potatoes and his wife looked at him like he was insane? I'm guessing that's the look you have on your face now. :-)
I asked my kids to come over and guess and my very smart daughter said it is an ice cream cone. :) I haven't a clue but it is lovely and looks delicious. I too would try to win it. :)
I'm not sure?? A Rocket? Can't wait to find out...does not look like it was an easy task....
I have NO idea, but it is pretty. I can see an icecream cone on the top. I do have to warn you--you might make it into the cakewrecks blog with it, after you post what it is supposed to look like!! you are the best Mom ever!!
keri
Hi, Andi! First let me say that I have no idea what your cake is. But, I know that any cake in an unusual shape is really tough to make! They don't cook at the same time or temp ... they can be very fussy. And I'm impressed with your results!! I'm going to guess that it is a wizard's hat. That's my best guess! :-)
It's for that space rocket event that boy scouts have - a rocket race!! I'm a bad former boy scout Mom :) You know the one I mean!
I'm ROFL at you saying you can HEAR Jake's eyes rolling, too funny! And he even carried the cake in :) Love him!
Space Derby!!! (I love Google :)
OK, I'm a posting freak now - you are a Number 1, Ace, Supremo, Superwoman, Wondermom, and whether you (or they) feel it right now, it's the truth!
Some sort of alien cone head? LOL... not trying to offend you, because you have guts to pull something off I wouldn't! LOL!
