Book Review - A Thousand Splendid Suns
I finished this book about three days ago...
Yes, it was a good book, but also very disturbing.
Have any of you read it?
I had my first cry right in the first chapter.
It is the most disturbing account of how women are treated like possessions/dirt/dogs/the lowest of the low.
I don't care about the whole historical, political and cultural 'reasons' that give excuses.
Crimes are crimes.
Arg....
So... I need a new book. Something fun. Uplifting. Something that will make me happy.
Because this book, was not on my 'A' list!
Please.. Help a girl out!
Thanks...

Hey, Girl. Happy Thanksgiving 3 days late. Had family in town so i wasn't playing on the 'puter much. I have this book...just one of the many on my shelf that I haven't gotten to read yet. I was recently given Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, which is on my night stand. I've read about 20 pages...haven't had much time for reading as of late, but when I have a few minutes before shut-eye, I do find it amusing. BUT! Go get yourself the most recent issue of "Artful Blogger" (I know...it's not a book for some easy reading pleasure.
Great to get the book review. You're the BEST!
I agree with you about A Thousand Splendid Suns - scary to think women in this same time are treated so differently around the world.
I have a book for you - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Odd name, I know, but it was a great story. Let me know what you think if you read it!
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. You are such a sweetie. We are so enjoying the lamb we bought from you. Hopefully next year we'll be able to get a whole lamb. It just goes so fast around here!
I'm reading a fantastic book by Lynn Austin called Though Waters Roar. I can hardly put it down. I would highly recommend it!
Happy Christmas Season to you and yours,
Jackie
The Guernsey Potato Peel and Literary Society is a great read. Add it to your list quick.
Have you ever actually read Bridget Jones' Diary? That one is truly laugh-out-loud hilarious, and seasonally appropriate as it starts and ends around the holidays.
I liked 'Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress' by Dai Sijie, also hilarious although not a hilarious topic - the Chinese cultural revolution, he finds the funny in the situation, the characters are great.
Right now I have just started 'Kitchen Confidential' by Anthony Bourdain, naughty AND hilarious, a double winner.
The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books, if you've read some read the newest ones, if you've never read them start with the first book - they are so charming and sweet, funny characters too, definite giggles involved.
None of these are new books, but so much the better - you can get the paperback version at the bookstore, order cheap from Amazon, or borrow from the library.
